salamaat, mariam, and thank you for posting this new outfit. while on the one hand, i think that this “speedo” so-called ‘modest’ swimming outfit is not what most muslim women would consider islamically modest, i do want to give kudos to “speedo” for finally stepping up to the plate. the reason i established “splashgear” was because i had tried in vain to get other usa companies to manufacture modest swimwear for muslim women. since i got nowhere with them, i then decided to open “splashgear” myself.
now that “speedo” has taken the plunge, so to speak, i hope that other companies, such as “nike” and “adidas”, will also follow suit. although i am personally biased and think my “splashgear” designs are the best–*wink*wink*–i think that in the end, muslim women–and all modesty conscious women, for that matter–win by finally being catered to and having their needs addressed in the marketplace. the more choices that all women have, the more liberated and comfortable we will all be!
so, kudos to “speedo”–i’m so glad that pioneering companies, such as “splashgear”, have led the way for the big guys to follow. =:-)

My initial thoughts on this suit is that a one piece type of suit is going to be very hard to make “modest”. When you get out of the water, especially if it’s slightly loose, it will cling to you like saran wrap.
yeah, i agree. i don’t think the designers either a) know the islamic criteria for modest dress or b) put much thought into the design and fabrication. it’s really a challenge, and quite a bit of thought and real-world evaluation need to be done before a swimming outfit can be called (islamically) modest.
on the other hand, this may be a great suit for non-muslims who do not have the same dress code requirement, or for muslimas looking for competition swimwear (remember roqaya al ghasara? she wore skin-tight leggings in her races).

Check out the Burkini (Burqini) swimwear which is more modest as they have a looser cut. They are available at zohra.ch
