I dont think its a good idea at all. People start to idol worship the artists, which is haram.
And women should not sing infornt of men, as the prophet SAW said a womens voice goes straught to a mans heart. And many other evidences from hadith practiced by the prophets wives show us women that we should not sing, or read quran in a beautiful voice. Read quran monotone is acceptable But singing is a sin. It is part of a womens aura so she can sing to her husband as aisha used to do to the Porphet SAW.
I think pop idol… says it all “Idol” and any muslim with commen sense knows that sort of is haram in islam.
I think that we have to be careful before we label anything as “haram” or forbidden in Islam. It’s a very strong categorization.
I agree that people can often go too far with their feelings towards celebrities/pop stars etc. But because of one person’s bad behavior, we shouldn’t let that make us ban the arts completely. We should find a way to promote artistic expression in a positive environment where people can learn the etiquette of entertainment.
These are just my personal thoughts
I’ll leave my thoughts on women singing for a future post… because it’s a very deep topic that I’m extremely passionate about as a singer myself.
