June 11th, 2009Have you heard? eluxury, one of the first discount designer sites, is closing. Although they say to “watch for the new eluxury site in the future (I don’t know what that means), they will be having big sales in the coming weeks.
If you use your Paypal you can save 25% off at Sports Authority, ebags (on one item) and several other online shops. Just go to the Paypal website. These offers tend to increase as more and more online sites are accepting Paypal for payment. I bought this little ‘coder’ from them for $5.00 that gives a new numerical code every so many seconds, increasing one’s security for online purchases.
Remember discounts available through your AAA (Automobile) membership, Borders perks, and any professional societies or other organizations.

Bath and Body works has an up to 50% off online sale and up to 75% off in stores.

This is one of the best companies to buy unique oils, lotions, candles, aromatherapy items, soaps, and hair and skincare from a great business that continues to improve its customer service with shipping to multiple locations and gift wrapping. They produce their own pure, healthy, and biodegradeable skincare products.
Gilt.com is now going to offer a new sale period of Sunday evenings at 9 pm (EST). Remember that each day’s new sale may include some from previous days.
Several sites offer a ‘daily’ deal or two, like OneKingsRoad, Gilt, and ThetopSecret. Other sites offer giveaways and contest prizes (e.g. Hautelook and Ideeli). Some of them also have a top tier paid membership that allows you to try to purchase merchandise early, or even exclusively. And some sites are beginning to offer more than just tangible goods. By being registered, Rue La La will soon offer up vacations trips to Nantucket. A few weeks ago they offered spa visits and workout tickets for Exhale (a line of well known spa/studios) in several cities.
Don’t panic, nearly everything on sample sites will be repeated, even on other sites, and sometimes at cheaper prices (e.g. Hautelook tends to be cheaper than Ideeli), especially the most popular stuff (e.g. Cole Haan).
Look at sales at the beginning of the week: if you are interested in something-do your homework first.
Use Pronto.com, Designerapparel.com or any of the many shop aggregators, (Shopstyle is one of the best to check on the department stores) and also try ebay, Smart Bargains, and Overstock.com.
Another way to find the lowest deal is to sign up for individual company/department store/online boutiques; they will alert you earliest to sales and even offer private deals. Sometimes I find a place like the online Sundance Catalog that has an outlet and offers items that are not listed by their ‘brand,’ but merely described. Thus I saw several Frye Boots priced lower than anywhere else, because people did not realize they were there.
Other online shops may be selling something that is not a hit with their usual customers, but that YOU would like-for example: I saw John Fluevog maryjanes for $160.94 that were $218.95. Carrying this shoe was out of place for them, so they marked it way down to get rid of them (you have to know what this company’s shoes are all about to get why Fluevies are so fanatical about these shoes!).
For shoes and handbags check prices and models at Piperlime, Zappos, 6pm (for Zappos overflows), and Endless. There are also other outlets previously mentioned on Hijabtrendz through ebay . Athletic shoes, clothing and gear is also out there. I really like joeswnewbalanceoutlet. They also carry the fabled Aravon shoes here (office and casual shoes made by New Balance).
