The local designer portion of Fashion Focus Chicago concentrated on student designers from four local schools.

The designs were interesting because the students took many more risks, but they obviously aren’t all things that you’d see someone wearing on a daily basis.

Still, the designs are fun and creative and can give you a place to start off your own ideas.

Tina Park from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago gave the one completely hijab-ready outfit.

I guess you could say Kelly Kroener also had a hijab look, but I’m taking this as political commentary more than anything else.

Alexis Aprati
of Columbia College started the show off right with this gorgeous outfit.

Kaely Garcia, of the same school, also showed an option that I think Muslims can wear well. Thick neck scarves have been in for a while, and this would definitely work well in cold weather.

I also loved the style of this black and grey outfit by Bas’ Talaga, even though it’s not really wearable for hijabis.

This dress by Amber Johnson, at the Illinois Institute of Art, is also not hijab-friendly, but I love the color combination.

Angie Ortega
was a great example of a concept that looks cool on the runway but isn’t very practical.

I’ve said before that I like asymmetrical looks, and Katherine Swanson did it well.

This color combination by Philip Gueorguiev is also to die for.

The show, and I, saved the best for last. The crowd definitely agreed that Fraley Le had the most amazing dress of the night.

I love the color combination, which he used in his other looks as well.

It’s definitely a combination I’ll be wearing in the spring.

I bet I could hijabify every single one of those looks. Very interesting, especially the first one of the night. And I bet I could also carry off the one with those vine drapes on the street :)

With a long sleeved jacket under the vines of course. And harem pants under the dress/tunic. I might even try to make something like that myself :D
