Are you one of those people who is an avid Black Friday shopper?

As much as I shop, I’ve never done the Black Friday thing. Well,  except for last year, when I was forced to go to the mall at 5 a.m. to  cover the story for my newspaper.
Let me tell you, we — and every other news outlet in the world — cover the story every year. There’s no “new” way to write about it.

But other than that, I’ve never gotten up early to wait in lines. I  think it’s because I like to sleep too much and the thought of getting  up at 2 or 3 a.m. is daunting. A few years ago, some of my friends decided it was the year to go shopping for insane bargains. An outlet mall in the area opens at midnight, and we figured that was the best bet since none of us are early risers.

We set out that evening only to find that the line off the highway for the mall exit was backed up for miles. We took an alternate route and actually found parking at a nearby lot, but while we were standing in the freezing cold, everyone I was with realized they didn’t want to go shopping THAT badly. We ended up hanging out at a friend’s place until 6 a.m. or so and  then hit the shops.

There are still some pretty good deals until 11 a.m., but nothing  compared to the Doorbusters. One of these days I’ll have to wait in line all night just to have that experience, but that wasn’t meant to be with Eid on the same day as Black Friday. Did anyone out there find amazing deals this year? Were they worth it?
