trench coat

Spring has finally made it to Chicago (or, at least for now, since it’s supposed to snow this weekend), and that means one thing to me: trench coats.

Spring only lasts for a few weeks here, but I still have at least three trench coats to make to through that time. I love them, and I think they make any outfit look sleek.

Plus, there are so many colors out, it’s hard to choose just one to pick for Spring.

The one that I’m currently coveting is the lovely purple one in the picture from The Limited. Even on sale, it’s out of my budget. But that hasn’t stopped me from looking at it in the store every once in a while.

The Limited has the same version of the coat in a bunch of cute colors, including yellow, green and plaid.

Old Navy is always a great place for cute coats as well. Although, they don’t have the hot pink one I bought there a few years ago. That’s one of my favorites.

Have you guys found cute trench coats anywhere this season?

Hijab Style File: If you can’t go to the beach

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

…then bring the beach to you!

We know a lot of people have been down because of the cold weather, but there is a way you can bring some of the great things you like about summer into your life.

Here is a little compilation that we thought might help give you some inspiration to wish those winter blues away.

  • Put your next hijab style together with some pieces that remind you of a better time (think bright, vibrant and a vacation-y vibe).
  • Close your eyes and put on some relaxation (some refer to it as spa) music. Enjoy the sounds of the ocean and pretend you’re out there. If you really want to get into it, slather some sunscreen on get out your bathing suit, crank up the heat and sit by the window. Hopefully there will be some sun shining through to make it feel semi-real. :)
  • Host a summer theme party and serve some fruit drink concoctions that have the flavors of summer (think strawberry, coconut, pineapple, mango) and pop one of those little umbrellas on top.
  • Go for a swim at an indoor water park, all the slides should distract you for awhile.
  • Get a professional massage or hang out for a day at the spa or make your own spa day and invite friends over.
  • Have a mani/pedi and get rid of that rough dry skin!

What do you do to bring about the summer in the dead of winter?

5 cheap ways to cure dry hair

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Dealing with a dry scalp and dry hair is one of those miserable things that you have to do trial and error with until you figure out what works for you.

There are so many items on the market claiming to “get rid of dandruff” or “bring moisture back to your locks” and we’ve compiled a list of some inexpensive ways to cure dryness.

1. Limit your hot showers. Steam and hot water seem like a logical solution right? After all it is a type of moisture. But the downside is that it literally pulls moisture away from your body and you get an even dryer scalp!

2. Rinse your hair with lukewarm or cold water after you are done shampooing/conditioning. The cold water seals the hair and keeps the moisture in.

3. Try not to wash your hair every single day. If you can wait a day or two between shampooing you’ll do wonders for your scalp.

4. Invest in a quality product that you can leave in your hair for a few days that smells good and keeps your strands healthy.

5. Use natural olive oil as a leave-in conditioner overnight or for a few hours. For best results wrap your head with a warm towel to help the olive oil settle into your scalp and hair.

We’d like to hear from you too! Let us know how you deal with these issues. Is there some special routine you go through?
