Behind the Screen

I got a call from my agent last week, asking if I was available for a video shoot.

Apparently it’s for a company that is looking to have a “Pakistani or Middle Eastern” woman for their footage.

I’m not sure what it entails, but I’m going today, so wish me luck!

It’s funny because just when I start doubting myself and whether I’ll ever get jobs in the entertainment industry due to hijab, things start to pick up.

I will update you all as soon as I get back, so consider this column to be continued….

And now I shall continue the story!

I got back this evening and was wiped out after a long day. The shoot I took part in was basically a commercial for a company that makes products for different cell phone companies. The commercial will play internally for employees around the world. The director told me the company is in 24 countries so that’s a lot of places!

Basically I was just showing how to use the phone to text and was walking with someone in an area that looked as though it was somewhere overseas and we were using the GPS feature to find out where we were going.

It was a lot of fun and the people were great to work with.

Paris Hilton and My Big Break

Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be an entertainer.

I love to sing and dance and act and make people laugh. And I think the best part of acting, is you get to experience all kinds of things and play all sorts of characters.

But growing up I never thought there would ever be a chance for me.

I started wearing hijab when I was about 8 years old. That sounds really young, I know.

No one really forced me to. It just sort of happened. I was an impressionable little kid.

The world is a very tempting place, and for me at least, hijab keeps me in check.
