Hijab friendly swimsuits, aren’t just for women who wear hijab, but for anyone looking to increase their sun protection when outdoors at the beach or pool. I’ve seen growth in the modest swimsuit industry and sun protective industry over the years, and what once was impossible to find, is becoming more readily available.
Enter Shorso, a hijab fashion brand that is being sold in the mainstream online store “House of Frasier”.
I recently caught up with the Jessica Robinson, Regional Commercial Director with the company, and asked her a bit more about the brand, and how it all started.
Can you tell me a little bit about how you started this line?
Shorso started in 2013, supplying modest sportswear to schools in the UK to encourage Muslim school girls to participate in swimming and aerobics. We found that parents were asking for modest sportswear for themselves so we expanded the range to include Adults and are now working in partnership with House of Fraser.
Where do you sell it, is it online or in stores? How can people get your products?
We currently sell our products online at House of Fraser, they are an international retailer that delivers to over 130 countries worldwide and we felt they would be the perfect partner as they offer a wide range of products to suit their diverse customer base. We also sell wholesale to school uniform shops and retailers internationally.
What’s the response so far? Are your clientel just Muslims and women who are looking for modesty? Do you have clients who are concerned about sun damage that purchase items?
We found that there is a gap in the market for women of all ages and cultures. We intend to grow our consumer base and raise awareness of our clothing. We receive great feedback from our customers who want our clothing widely available at various high street retailers, we intend to do so in the future.
What makes your brand different from the other modest swimwear labels out there?
We offer a range of unique prints, fits and colours to suit each individual customer. We appeal to various customers from different ages and backgrounds. We inspire our customers to be active without compromise.
Where are your products manufactured?
Our products are manufactured in the UK and China.
Anything else you’d like to add you think people should know about?
We intend to grow our modest sportswear range and launch our casual wear line in 2016/17 which will include dresses, tops and skirts.
